Discovering the Beaverdam Swamp

This discovery happened last week, right after it had rained heavily. Well that could describe almost every week this year, couldn’t it? It has been a very long time since we have been here; the kids were…kids.

  • The whole family came on this Discovery, including Oscar and Sassie
It was so quiet back here, even though we were not far from a highway.
Love the fungi! I think it is called Horseshoe – we see it growing on stumps in our backyard when we have cut trees down.
We saw several huge turtles! No alligators, but I am sure there are there!
Love the patterns in the wood on the bench and boardwalk (notice all the diagonal lines? The Sweetgum was especially vibrant. Such interesting textures.
Tree limbs have always fascinated me. I think they are very expressive. Maybe I’ll start incorporating them into some art journal pages or mixed media. You can’t really tell, but they are full of tiny buds…the promise of new life which is never really gone, just hidden.
