SUMMARY:Celebrate Your Creativity Mini Retreat in Florence
DESCRIPTION:Spend the whole day or just half the day celebrating the joy of making! Junk Journals in the morning\, gel plate printing in the afternoon! \n\n\n\n\nJoin us on Saturday\, April 11 at the Kennedy Douglas Center for the Arts in Florence to celebrate 50 years of arts! And what better way to celebrate than by creating! \nThis retreat is actually two workshops\, one in the morning and one if the afternoon. Do one or both\, whatever your schedule allows! \nJUNK JOURNAL MAKING: 9:00am – 12:00pm \nWe’ll be taking old papers\, book pages\, painted and stained pages and putting them together to make a journal. I’ll show you a simple way to sew the books into the covers\, and then we’ll have time to start filling it. You are welcome to bring any papers you have been “stockpiling” (we don’t use the word “hoarding”). This is a fun way of creating a journal that has character built into every page! \nGEL PLATE PRINTING & OPEN ART JOURNALING: 1:00pm – 4:00pm \nIf you’ve been wanting to try gel plate printing but are not sure how to start\, this is the perfect class. And if you are already familiar and just need time and space to make your prints\, then this is also the perfect class! I’ll have gel plates\, bryers\, stencils\, stamps and loads of paper to help you scratch that creative itch! \nAnd if you just want to bring an art journal and fill some pages with all the goodies I’ll have then you can do that\, too! \nYou can register for just the morning or just the afternoon\, or the whole day. There will be an hour in between sessions to grab lunch. {Lunch is not provided\, but we can place an order with a close by restaurant and have it delivered for those who want to.} \nBring a friend and save $20! There is a ticket option to buy two tickets with a $20 discount!

SUMMARY:Cultivate Your Creativity
DESCRIPTION:How do you stay creatively motivated? How do you keep from feeling stale or stuck? This retreat takes place in Florence\, Alabama\, and is designed to help you find ways to continue to grow as a creative person. You’ll learn tried and true practices…and more importantly how to modify them to work for you. But this is not just theory or lectures\, it’s a hands-on working retreat. When you leave you’ll have a plan and resources to keep you thriving. \nFriday\,April 4 from 4-6pm with packet pickup\, meet and greet\, in a “come and go” setting. Attendance to this is not necessary\, it’s just an opportunity to get situated. For those who want a jump start\, you can make your own name badge! If you can’t make it Friday\, you’ll have the opportunity to make your name tag Saturday morning. \nOur retreat space is the entire first floor of a beautiful old home that is next to the main gallery and part of the Kennedy Douglas Art Center in historic downtown Florence\, Alabama. It has a lovely big veranda that we will make use of if the weather is warm enough\, and across from a park. \nFood:\nBreakfast Muffins\, fruit\, coffee\, tea\, and juice Saturday and Sunday morning\nLunch is provided at the retreat on Saturday\nDinner is on your own\, but we’ll have a table at Rosies (less than 5 minute walk) for those who want to join on Saturday night\nSnacks will be available in the kitchen through out the day\nCoffee (some might ask\, “Is it its own category?” and yes\, yes it is.) Coffee will be available all weekend. \nSaturday\, April 5\, 9am-5:30pmwe open up at 8:00 for anyone who didn’t get their packets on Friday. Grab a cup of coffee or tea\, find a seat\, and make your name tag if you have not already. We’ll start promptly at 9am. Art journaling is a a form of art that is very personal\, highly engaging\, and can be beneficial in many ways. An art journal can be a place to record thoughts\, ideas\, emotions\, memories or lessons learned. It can be a place to work through fear\, grief\, or a creative block. An art journal can be a place to explore new new ideas or places or new creative territory. \nThis workshop will introduce you to the practice of art journaling. You’ll be supplied with a new journal made especially for this purpose\, materials to use in your journal\, a primer\, writing prompts\, and instruction on some simple techniques to get your started. You’ll be able to take some materials home to continue. \nNo artistic experience is needed\, it doesn’t matter if you have never picked up a paint brush or if you are a regular crafter.
